Facilitation Training

Through over three decades of training internal facilitators for companies worldwide, ASI has developed various highly interactive facilitation skills workshop that focus on the skills, techniques, and methodologies necessary to effectively facilitate groups and the group process.

The workshops provide learning, discussion, and practical application in the key areas of:

  • Defining facilitation and the role of the facilitator
  • Planning and conducting effective meetings
  • Fundamental facilitation skills: listening, questioning, observing, intervening
  • Dealing with challenging group situations
  • Consensus building and conflict resolution
  • Group dynamics and group development

The workshop agenda includes the opportunity for each participant to engage in one to two facilitation practice sessions. During these practice sessions, participants will receive feedback from the instructor and workshop colleagues.

The workshops are above all designed for group/team leaders, individuals functioning as "third-party" facilitators of groups and individuals currently involved as active group members.

Group Works

Group Works is designed to give facilitators the skills that will make them more effective at managing the work and progress of groups. It addresses the issues that all facilitators confront when they work with groups to get work done, whether that work is strategic planning, problem solving, or daily work. The focus of the program is on helping facilitators develop collaborative competencies that enable members of groups to work together effectively.

It helps them establish operating principles that will ensure each member of a group takes responsibility for achieving outstanding results. And it helps them identify adversarial or difficult behaviours, and work on turning them around.

The Effective Facilitator

The objectives of this workshop are for you to:

  1. Understand the role of the facilitator in today’s work environment
  2. Learn the core competencies necessary for effective facilitation
  3. Build upon your current interpersonal communication skills
  4. Explore group dynamics and group involvement
  5. Practice techniques for fostering consensus and handling difficult situations

Advanced Facilitation Skills

This workshop has been designed for experienced facilitators and trainers who want to improve their skills in working with groups. The goals of this workshop are to:

  • Clarify what facilitators are supposed to do
  • Develop a frame of reference for: creating a positive environment for learning, establishing meaningful relationships with participants and helping groups achieve their goals
  • Improve participants' technical skills
  • Identify difficult situations and learn how to deal with them effectively
  • Learn about ourselves and each other

Leaders as Facilitators

Leaders as Facilitators is designed to help leaders work more effectively with their teams enabling them to really harness their energy and creativity a highly flexible training programme to support leaders in their everyday role.

Based on the skills, techniques and methodologies necessary to effectively facilitate groups, this programme focuses on the practical application of these skills within the workplace, enabling leaders to build and sustain a work environment that inspires individuals and teams.
